This is a brief on how Alabama fell from grace in the general timeframe of the 1992 Championship thru Coach Fran with some earlier history thrown in for reference. It sheds light (true or false – that is up to the individual) on what happened to bring down the Tide and who all was involved. It definitely helps explain the animosity toward Phil Fulmer. Two years ago, I traveled to Foxboro to cover my first game at Gillette Stadium. This was a UMass football game. The Minutemen were taking on a tough BYU squad, but they surprisingly went up 10-0 in the first quarter before coming back down to reality as the Cougars ripped off 35 straight points to make it a blowout.
I remember being impressed with BYU’s quarterback. Doing my pregame research, I saw he was starting as a freshman and was having an good year, and while he didn’t put up gaudy numbers that day at Gillette 14-for-22 passing, 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns you could tell he was going to be a good one. At first, I thought he was just another in the long line of quarterbacks who had picked apart the Minutemen defense that season, but you could see the zip he had on his throws, how accurate he was throwing outside the numbers and deep, and the athleticism to ....

DANBURY – Richard “Dick” Foley Jr., 71, passed away at his home on Jan. 2, 2021.
The son of the late Florence and Richard Foley Sr., Dick was a Naugatuck native. A prominent Republican political figure in Connecticut, Foley’s career spanned five decades. His influence was felt by hundreds of candidates, extending across political parties.
Dick leaves his daughter, of whom he was most proud, Lauren Anne Niles, and her husband, Justin C. Niles. He was predeceased by his brother, Kevin Foley.
Dick attended Naugatuck High School and then graduated from Milford Academy, studied at Hofstra University and later graduated from Post College. ....
