Council to decide on Development Variance Permit for supportive housing project

Council will listen to those in the audience to comment on the DVP application.
According to CAO Milo MacDonald, “staff are supportive of the Development Variance Permit as presented and note the positive impact to vulnerable populations.”
The proposed application is in line with three strategic goals of the City:
Build and manage public assets and human resources that support the current and future needs of the community
Initiate and foster partnerships that will benefit Fort St. John. Advocate to decision-makers on issues that impact the community
Actualize downtown Fort St. John as a social, vibrant, liveable hub as articulated in the Fort St. John Downtown Action Plan. ....

“As you know, we don’t want to be here. We shouldn’t need to be here, but the circumstances over the past couple of months meant we had to be here in front of you,” said Nelson Stowe, vice-chair of the Society.
Stowe continued pointing out what has been publicized in the local media following letters sent out by the City.
“All the accusations about the society and the activities. As an organization, I believe we have a right to defend ourselves. The society feels like we have been treated unfairly and unjustly in the media with those public statements.” ....
