Share this article Share this article PLAINFIELD, Ind., March 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded $311,246 in grants to 22 different K-12 education programs in 15 Indiana counties for 2021. The grants support summer reading programs; energy, engineering and environmental education programs; and programs that support under-represented, low-income or diverse audiences. We all know many students missed out on several learning opportunities last year, said Stan Pinegar, Duke Energy state president for Indiana. I am proud that we are able to offer these grants to students in communities throughout our service territory with the hope of helping those students catch up, restore their passion for learning and encourage them to meet and exceed their educational goals. ....

Senior Maitri Patel has been named a finalist for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award and Scholarship Contest. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Students are selected by their teachers and peers. Once a student is chosen as a DAR Good Citizen, the student is invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. The contest consists of a personal statement and an essay. ....

The Service and Seminar Class, led by Jeff Stutler, collected 45 bicycles to give to area families. The annual project accepted donations in November and December with many local organizations contributing. Margaret Mary Health was among the contributors, equipping each bike with a helmet. In a Facebook post Tuesday, Milan Community Schools announced that the bikes were delivered to the Samaritans Hope Chest in Milan. “Despite the challenges of this year, the Milan community stepped up to provide Christmas joy. The class extends a thank you to everyone for their generosity,” the post reads. ....
