The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN), one of the government-owned economic zones in the country, is being developed on 30,000 acres of land in three upazilas of Chattogram and Feni. The government is optimistic about the employment of 1.5 million people there in the next 15 years.
Large scale industries are being set up with the investment of more than a hundred industrial groups. Although several factories have reached the stage of production this year, power shortage has appeared as the main impediment.
Even though the demand for electricity in those factories is 230 KV, the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB), which is in charge of supplying electricity in the area, has a capacity of 132 KV and 33 KV. CHATTOGRAM, Jan 2, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said about 30 lakh job opportunities will be created at Mirsarai Economic Zone.
The minister said this while distributing LED lights to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), received as a grant from the Chinese Government, at a function as chief guest at Radisson Brew Bay View in the city.
“Bangabandhu dreamt of a developed country and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now materializing that dream and has made the country self-sufficient in food production, education and health food”, he said. ....
