13-year-old girl dies of Covid in Jamshedpur | Ranchi News

JAMSHEDPUR: The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has claimed the life of another child in the Steel City. Undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the Tata Main Hospital (TMH) here for nearly a week, the latest victim, a 13-year-old girl, was also suffering from jaundice. She succumbed to the viral disease on Saturday. The girl had visited the hospital for treatment of jaundice but subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. A resident of Golmuri, the girl had no travel history.
Earlier, in April, a child had died after contracting the contagious disease. The additional chief medical officer, (ACMO), Sahir Pall, said that so far, 1,932 children under 14 years were infected with Covid-19 in the state. Nearly 1,200 of them are boys and the rest are girls. ....

JAMSHEDPUR: Two temporary hospitals with a combined capacity of more than 90 oxygen-supported beds to treat Covid-19 patients will come up in the district soon amid the surge in cases.
Work for setting up the two hospitals, which will be run by Tata Steel, is almost over and will come up at the buildings of Employees Training Centre and Ramgarhia Sabha in Sakchi area, officials said. The liquid oxygen plant located some 500 meters away from the two hospital buildings with supply the gas through a pipeline.
Tata Steel advisor (medical services) Ranjan Chaudhry said, A dedicated pipeline from the oxygen plant to the two hospitals has been laid so that every bed is connected. ....

Virus spread in E S'bhum rural areas a worry | Ranchi News


JAMSHEDPUR: On May 11 last year, East Singhbhum had recorded its cases zero in Chakuliya, a rural area of the district. Later, it was Jamshedpur, an urban set up, which made headlines with an unprecedented share of positive cases while the rural areas were less affected. However, one year on, figures show the virus is spreading rapidly in the rural areas this time.
Till last week, several rural pockets were recording cases only in single-digits but now, the numbers have shot up to above 50 in most of the areas. The health department figures show 89 positive cases in Musaboni, 71 in Potka, 45 in Dumaria, 65 in Patamda and 38 in Dhalbhumgarh. ....

IMA, TMH launch telephone service for Covid-19 patients | Ranchi News


Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has launched a free telephonic consultation service for Covid and non-Covid patients in the city who are in home care.
The IMA has empanelled 30 doctors to attend to the patients over the phone. The service has been launched at the request of East Singhbhum administration.
The IMA said they are receiving nearly 600 calls each day from Covid-19 patients and their family members. The IMA has made public the phone numbers of the doctors and their schedule for taking calls.
“I receive calls at regular intervals all through the day and even late in the evening but I have no complaints. The severity of the pandemic is such that people driven by the concern for their nar ones call on the doctor to get timely advice,” Dr Harprit Singh, a city-based urologist, said. ....

Mango, popularly known as the king of fruits, has few takers during its peak season with the restrictions imposed across the state during `health safety week’ till May 6.
The streets wear a deserted look with very few out on the streets as the movement of people and operation of markets are following strict norms with Covid cases surging across the state.
As a result of the lockdown, the sale of mangoes has nosedived much to the chagrin of fruit sellers who had stocked up Banginapalli and Ghulab Khas or Sindhura in large quantities. ....
