Work underway on war-footing to develop Miyawaki forests in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority is successfully implementing the Miyawaki Forests project and the first phase of work on various locations has been completed ahead of time.
The official record showed that initial work has been done in Fatima Jinnah Park and sector I-10 where thousands of local plants have been planted according to the techniques adopted to develop Miyawaki forests.
It is believed that the Miyawaki forests currently being planted would grow in next two to four
years but they would turn into thick jungle in ten years.
The staff workers of the civic agency have also got training for this specific technique is quite new in Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan is taking a keen interest in growing Miyawaki ....

Air pollution in Lahore has reached the alarming level of 321 micrograms per cubic metre. Once again, the city has been declared the most polluted city in the world. The main causes of pollution are heavy traffic and brick kilns. This problem is not limited to Lahore. Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi and other major cities of the country are facing the same situation. According to the research carried out by a health journal ‘The Lancet’, more than 135,000 people die every year in Pakistan due to air pollution alone. Now, the Pakistan government is focusing on setting up Miyawaki Forests in the country. However, a lot needs to be done to deal with the country’s climate crisis. The authorities should take immediate steps to address this issue of alarming levels of air pollution. ....

ISLAMABAD: City managers have decided to set up 21 Miyawaki Forests in the capital as Prime Minister Imran Khan kicked off the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2021 by planting a sapling at Lotus Park in Shakarparian on Wednesday.
The drive is part of the 10 billion tree tsunami project.

LG minister inaugurates tree plantation drive at Bagh-i-Jinnah - Newspaper

Speaking to the participants of the ceremony, the LG minister said that over 100,000 environment-friendly and indigenous plants would be used in the tree plantation campaign, adding that the KMC’s parks department had developed some 70,000 indigenous saplings in their own nurseries, while memorandums of understanding had also been signed with civil society organisations to seek their cooperation in making Karachi a green city.
