At least 139 women prisoners are confined in Adiala Jail

There are at least 884 women prisoners in 43 jails across Punjab. The highest number is Adiala Jail, where 139 female inmates are confined.
According to official data, currently there are 50,527 male and 884 female inmates in Punjab jails.
IG Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig said while speaking to The Express Tribune that arrangements have been made to provide facilities to women prisoners in the jails. He said special care is taken for the education and training of the prisoners.
Apart from formal education they are given diplomas in various skills, including sewing, embroidery, computer and other fields with the help of the Technical Education and Vocational Authority (TEVTA) and other institutions.

“The whole flesh on his backside has withered due to bed sores. His entire body is marred with wounds. The poor fellow is not taken to hospital,” said the Muslim lawyer.

There are 544 juvenile prisoners in 42 jails across Punjab, including teenage girls.
Cases against 464 juvenile inmate are pending, while 71 children have been sentenced. Trials of all the incarcerated girls are still being heard. According to official data, Faisalabad Central Jail has the highest number of 74 children, followed by 70 in Bahawalpur District Jail, 69 in Lahore District Jail, 64 in Rawalpindi Central Jail and 45 in Gujranwala Central Jail.

Stalls of products made by inmates to be set up
Prisons IG says move aimed at encouraging savings among prisoners

The Punjab Prisons Department has launched a plan to sell the products manufactured by inmates at market rates.
Inspector General of Prisons Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig has issued an order to set up stalls of the products in the visiting areas of jails. The products will also be displayed in exhibitions and at stalls established by the government at various events.
Mirza said that the purpose of the move was to encourage the prisoners to take interest in learning skills and create opportunities for them to earn money.
