Floodwaters from Tropical Storm Elsa recede in North Port


City spokesman Josh Taylor said in a Monday release that some roads in low-lying areas are still unpassable, but no water rescues were necessary. 
“We continue to check street levels, continue measurements, and maintain a presence in the affected area,” he added. “No homes are currently under the threat of water intrusion.” 
In addition, stormwater from the 594-square-mile Myakka River Watershed flows south through North Port and out into Port Charlotte. 
The city is regularly monitoring the U.S. Geological Survey rain gauges both at State Road 72 and Tropicaire Boulevard, and water levels at both continue to go down.  ....

North Port eyes rising floodwaters after Tropical Storm Elsa


The flood warning for the Myakka River at Myakka State Park continues, with the water level at 6.6 feet, as of 10 a.m. Thursday. Flood stage is 7 feet.
The river was expected to rise above flood stage Thursday afternoon and rise as high as 8.9 feet Saturday afternoon.
The previous crest high at Myakka State Park was 8.9 feet on Aug. 28. 1962.
In addition, rainfall runoff from farther north in the Myakka River Basin from Elsa is flowing toward Charlotte Harbor and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico. 
The Myakkahatchee Creek, which runs through North Port, is the mouth of Big Slough, which is part of the watershed.  ....
