Asks court to restrain MGR Makkal Katchi from using it
The Makkal Needih Maiam has filed a petition in the High Court to restrain MGR Makkal Katchi from using the ‘Battery Torch’ symbol and direct the Election Commission to allot the symbol to itself.
In a statement, MNM said it had stated in its prayer that it is entitled to the Battery Torch symbol under law.
“MNM has, in its prayer, stated that it is entitled to the ‘Battery Torch’ symbol for the election to the T.N. legislative assembly as per the provisions of the election symbols (reservation and allotment) order, 1968,” the statement said. ....

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 17 (ANI): Kamal Haasan s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has approached the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday over the allotment of the Battery Torch symbol to MGRMakkal Katchi for 2021 Tamil Nadu elections.
According to sources, MNM had urged EC to reconsider its decision and demands regarding the party symbol.
The MNM contested the general election under the Battery Torch symbol.
Haasan, who kick-started his party s campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly polls on Sunday, had confirmed about contesting the 2021 elections, adding that he will announce the constituency, from which he will contest in the coming days. (ANI) ....

In 1996, when Rajinikanth had pledged his support to the late GK Moopanar’s Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC)-DMK alliance in the assembly election, the former’s party used the lines from Rajinikanth’s 1992 movie ‘Annamalai’ as their party’s theme song. Rajinikanth had essayed the role of a milkman in the movie. Moopanar’s TMC, which was launched just before the election, used the posters of Rajinikanth riding a bicycle for their campaigning as they were contesting on the bicycle symbol.
