Recent airbag thefts in Bethesda are part of a regional trend, police say 17 were taken on Battery Lane alone By Dan Schere | December 18, 2020 Montgomery County police say a raft of airbag thefts in Bethesda earlier this month is part of a regional trend, in which the airbags are sold on the black market to repair shops. Between Dec. 3 rd and 5 th, 30 airbags were stolen from vehicles in Bethesda, police spokeswoman Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti told Bethesda Beat on Thursday. Innocenti said the main areas where the thefts occurred were on Hillandale Road, Battery Lane and Bradley Boulevard. “Our detectives have noted that it’s a regional trend, so it’s occurring in other jurisdictions in the D.C. area, and it appears to have now come into our county,” she said. “So, we’re actively investigating these thefts but also working with our regional partners to try to identify these [thieves].”
