Government efforts to curb the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere are expected to propel the global floating solar panels market to US$2301.8 million by 2026, from US$685.2 million in 2019, according to the market research study published by P&S Intelligence.

SolarMarine Energy design floating renewable energy system in Ireland

SolarMarine Energy Ltd (SolarMarine Energy), an Irish small-medium sized enterprise (SME) based in County Mayo, Ireland, has designed an innovative floating hybrid renewable energy system, which could offer sustainable low carbon solution for Irish coastal communities.
The research and development project was funded by the Marine Institute s 2018 Industry-Led Awards scheme. Under the scheme, the Marine Institute provided €2.4 million in funding for research projects to twelve companies, working in collaboration with five higher education institutions.
For this research project, SolarMarine Energy designed a floating solar energy structure to produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is generated using excess renewable energy that can be used as a clean fuel for heating and transport, or to store and transport energy. The company’s research indicates that floating solar energy is ideal for island and coastal communities. ....

Equinor test floating solar energy in Norway

Equinor is already an offshore wind major. Now the company will explore the opportunities within offshore solar power. Together with Moss Maritime, the company wants to start testing off the island of Frøya, Norway.
The plan is to build a floating pilot plant off Frøya, near Trondheim, in the late summer of 2021. It is set to become the world’s first pilot plant for floating solar power in rough waters.
The municipality of Frøya has responded positively to and is involved in the planning of the pilot plant. Equinor has filed an application with the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. Planned to measure 80 m x 80 m, the plant will tower less than 3 m over the sea surface. According to plans, the pilot will be tested for minimum one year. The project is a collaboration between Equinor and the technology company Moss Maritime. ....
