Alabama News The Fourth of July holiday is always a busy time for Montgomery police with an influx of calls for fireworks and celebratory gunfire. Montgomery Police Department reports that from July 4th at 6pm until 6am on July 5th, MPD responded to 486 service calls. MPD responded to 23 calls for shots fired, which is a 73% decrease (86 calls) from 2020. They responded to eight shopspotter calls. They were up four calls in 2021 compared to the four calls in 2020. The calls for fireworks were 144. This is a 47% decrease from 2020 as their were 270 calls. There were also six reports of damage to property from firearms. ....

End of an era: Midway Home Solutions in Victorville acquired by Howard’s High Desert staple to be rebranded, with new store beginning operation in June Victorville Daily Press Midway Home Solutions, which started out as a modest mom-and-pop repair shop in Victorville before expanding multiple times over the next six decades, has reached its end. On Monday, Howard’s, an independent appliance retailer based in Southern California, announced its upcoming acquisition of Midway’s operations and assets. Howard’s will begin operation on June 15, according to a press release. “We are thrilled that Howard’s will continue the legacy of what we have built here in Victorville,” Midway CEO Don Lager said in the release. “Howard’s commitment to the customer experience and product support mirrors our own. We look forward to seeing what new and exciting opportunities Howard’s will bring to the area’s 400,000 residents.” ....

Through May 16, ZIP code 92037 had 1,599 registered cases (up by seven from last week) and 3,694.1 per 100,000. ZIP code is the code of residence, which may not be the location of exposure. The county also posts a list by ZIP code of the number of residents who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Through May 16, 27,990 residents of the 92037 ZIP code had received a vaccine. ....
