HS2 minister: ‘Integrated Rail Plan not going to be published as soon as some people would like’
Dedicated transport minister for HS2 Andrew Stephenson has refused to confirm if the Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) will be published before the Parliamentary summer recess.
In response to a question at
NCE s Future of Rail conference on whether the IRP will be published before Parliament breaks for the summer, Stephenson said the plan will be published soon but he fears that s not going to be as soon as some people would like .
The House of Commons rises for the summer recess on 22 July, and RIA has stressed the importance of providing certainty to rail businesses before then. ....

HS2 | NIC proposes changes to northern leg and urges Toton station rethink


The western leg of HS2 Phase 2b to Manchester should be prioritised over the eastern section to Leeds, according to the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC).
The NIC’s
Rail Needs Assessment – released today – contains an analysis of five different options for rail investment.
All five options call for the western leg of HS2 Phase 2b connecting Crewe and Manchester to be built as planned.
However, under three of the options, the eastern leg of HS2 Phase 2b would be scaled back, either by replacing it with local route upgrades or delivering the HS2 route in phases.
The assessment also calls for a rethink of Toton station, with East Midlands Parkway suggested as an alternative East Midlands hub station. ....
