Covid-19: MSU Suspends Face-To-Face Lectures As UZ Postpones Exams


THE Midlands State University (MSU) has indefinitely postponed face-to-face lectures citing increased Covid-19 cases.
However, the MSU deputy registrar academic affairs, Irvine Gumbo said students should pay full fees and register for e-learning classes that commenced Monday.
“In light of the continued increase in the number of new Covid-19 positive cases, Midlands State University would like to advise all students, across all campuses, particularly those who were scheduled to commence face-to-face lectures on the 4
th of January 2021 that all face-to-face lectures have been postponed to a date to be advised,” Gumbo said in a statement.
“Meanwhile, all students are advised to pay their full fees and register to be able to attend online classes and access learning materials. Online classes for all students will commence on the 11 ....

Mutasa: A Midlands State University (MSU) student has been jailed six months after a local court found him guilty of stealing a Husqvarna 365 chainsaw machine and US$30 belonging to a neighbour in Nyakupinda village.
This is after Nigel Tatenda Kutodza (22) pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before magistrate Artwel Sanyatwe.
However, the magistrate set aside three months on condition he would not commit a similar offence in the next five years while another three months were suspended on condition he paid a fine of ZW$5 000.
Asked why he stole the machine, Kutodza said, “Your Worship, I took the machine to sell so that I can pay my fees at university”. ....

HARARE, Zimbabwe – Poor wages, a devalued currency, and intimidation are haunting journalists in the southern African country of Zimbabwe.
With over a decade of experience as a freelance journalist under his belt, Thomas Madhuku, 35, has faced imprisonment and harassment from law enforcement agencies, and has faced numerous attacks while performing his duties.
Just last year, he was attacked at a press conference organized by student leaders over the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa, a Midlands State University journalism student.
“We were covering a press conference by ZINASU [Zimbabwe National Students Union] leaders who were demanding answers on the abduction of Muchehiwa. My phone was taken away by some militia with the assistance of the police,” he told Anadolu Agency. ....
