The Illuminating Company Invests $15.5 Million in Tree Trimming Efforts to Reinforce Electric System During Severe Weather

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio, April 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Illuminating Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), is conducting tree trimming and other vegetation management work in communities across its northeast Ohio service area as part of its ongoing efforts to help enhance electric service reliability. This year s $15.5 million tree-trimming program will help keep power flowing to customers around the clock by preventing tree-related outages, such as those that can occur during the spring and summer storm season.
On the ground, contractors have trimmed trees along nearly 600 miles of power lines across The Illuminating Company s service area since the beginning of the year. The company s program remains on track to complete an additional 1,800 miles of tree-trimming work by the end of the year. As part of this process, helicopter aerial saws will be used in April to trim trees along hard-to-access transmission corrido ....

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash on Burton-Windsor Road in Middlefield Township late Friday night that claimed the life of a passenger.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:38 p.m. Feb. 5, just east of state Route 608. There were a total of five occupants in the vehicle and none of them were wearing seatbelts, according to a news release issued by the highway patrol’s Chardon Post. ....

Jasmyne Whitman, 18, of North Bloomfield, a senior at Warren John F. Kennedy High School, volunteers as Elf Jazzy at Santaâs Hide-A-Way Hollow, a private nonprofit retreat in Middlefield Township.
BLOOMFIELD Jasmyne Whitman’s resume includes a letter of recommendation from Santa Claus himself.
“She’s a wonderful young lady and a wonderful elf,” Santa said through local spokesman Bill Dieterle. “Her heart is so pure. She is so genuine.”
Five years ago, Whitman, a John F. Kennedy High School senior from North Bloomfield, began volunteering at Santa’s Hide-A-Way Hollow. The nonprofit retreat in Middlefield Township, on the Mesopotamia border, brings Christmas year-round to seriously and terminally ill children and their families. ....
