Since 2017, Miami University Regionals has been at the forefront of the Southwestern Ohio Bluegrass Music Heritage Project. This project has drawn on scholars, artists, archivists, and musicians in greater Cincinnati and the Miami Valley to explore the region’s rich bluegrass heritage and make it accessible to the public and researchers. Achievements to date include a series of public lectures and musical programs, a traveling panel exhibit illustrating the history of southwestern Ohio bluegrass, a dedicated archive at the Smith Library of Regional History and a reference website.

Mar. 6 Middletown city leaders and the president of the union at AK Steel don t believe they will see significant differences after the steelmaker changes its name to reflect new ownership.
Neil Douglas, president of IAM Local 1943, said Lourenco Goncalves, chairman, president and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs sent out a company wide email last week announcing the name change to Cleveland-Cliffs. In 2020, the Ohio-based company bought AK Steel for $1.1 billion.
Also last year, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. bought the U.S. assets of ArcelorMittal for $1.4 billion. The deal made Cleveland-Cliffs the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America, officials said. ....

MARQUETTE The Middletown Community Foundation has announced that nominations for the AK Steel Magnolia Award are now open for Marquette County residents.
The award honors women of all ages who have faced personal adversity and have shown exceptional strength, courage, compassion and leadership through their work in support of their communities.
Women who have overcome obstacles to positively impact the community have the opportunity to earn recognition as a Steel Magnolia Award recipients in the program funded by the AK Steel Foundation.One award recipient will be selected in each of the AK Steel, AK Tube or Cleveland-Cliffs communities in the U.S. The overall program grants up to 15 awards and each recipient designates a $2,500 donation to an eligible charity of her choice. ....
