Kimball places sixth in welding event

By The Herald Staff A Central Heights High School student recently placed in the Missouri Welding Institute’s annual welding competition. Dylan Kimball finished sixth in the high school division. Thie annual two-day competition had more than 350 students from all over the Midwest compete for prizes, This was the second-largest turnout in the 11-year history of the competition in spite of COVID-19. There were a total of 20 winners and they were awarded more than $410,000 in scholarships. Each participant received a $1,000 scholarship toward tuition at Missouri Welding Institute. HCC program preparing work-ready welders, even before they graduate high school A Marion County High School student has big plans. Along with his high school classes, he s learning welding in downtown Hillsboro at the Hutchinson Community College welding center. Austin Ebaben, 18, along with students from Goessel, Harrington and Hillsboro high schools take half-day classes to obtain several welding certifications. In addition, Ebaben and fellow Marion student, Rope Uhl, will compete against 150 students at the Missouri Welding Institute’s 11th annual welding competition on Jan. 28 in Nevada, Missouri. Scholarships and prizes will be awarded at the end of each competition. Ebaben wants to gain certifications in pipe fitting as well. Next year, he plans to attend Hutchinson Community College and obtain an associate degree in welding. After completing his degree, he hopes to attend the Missouri Welding Institute and garner more certificates in welding.
