NEWCASTLE The Frances Perkins Center will present its seventh annual public policy forum “Conscience and Courage: Frances Perkins and Dr. Feng Shan Ho,” which focuses on immigration and refugee policy at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25.
The forum will cover how Perkins and Shan Ho used their positions of public office and ingenious strategies,despite strong national government opposition, to provide tens of thousands of Jews a means of escape from the Holocaust in Europe.

Keynote speakers for the forum include Bat-Ami Zucker, historian and professor emerita, Bar-Ilan University, Israel; and Manli Ho, a journalist and biographer for her late father, Dr. Feng Shan Ho, consul-general of China in Vienna from 1938-40. ....

Here is information that will be helpful to Lincoln County residents who could benefit from confidential and free tax prep assistance by trained volunteers (households generally earning less than $57,000). First is UW of Midcoast Maine s CASH Coalition and secondly is the CLC-Y AARP Aid at Spectrum Generations. Especially key to reducing taxes and increasing refunds are learning about Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC), the Childcare Tax Credits (CTC), and other debt reduction programs.
Midcoast Ca$h is here for you. Volunteers are ready to help. Midcoast CA$H has teamed up with GetYourRefund.org to connect you to our IRS-certified virtual volunteers. Filing will be done virtually, and safety precautions will be in place at our drive-thru Scan & Go sites. ....

Winter Break Community Service Continues This Year Despite Pandemic
Bowdoin s traditional Alternative Winter Break program, in which groups of students commit to a week of community service designed by student trip leaders, had to be paused this January due to COVID-19 safety protocols.

But that didn t stop the McKeen Center for the Common Good from helping students pursue service opportunities during the break.
The idea came up this fall what if we focused on individual students and provided them funding like we do over the summer? McKeen Center Director Sarah Seames said. Thus, the seed for the new Winter Break Community Engagement Fund was planted. ....
