Having spent a career teaching economics, I have found the reincarnation of the idea a bit puzzling. To an economist, the term “socialism” refers to the government ownership of the means of production. But that is not how the term is being used. Instead, the appellation “socialist” is applied to someone to imply that they are radicals. It has become a mostly meaningless label being pinned on others like a donkey tail.
