Returning from a 29-month hiatus, Jackson has agreed to fight debuting Irishman Dean Barry in a welterweight bout at a UFC event on Jan. 20, multiple people with knowledge of the matchup told MMA Fighting. Jackson, a fighter and a journalist, has only competed twice as a professional, both times in the UFC. In February 2016, he was the first UFC opponent for ’s Lookin’ for A Fight acquisition Mickey Gall, and he lasted just 45 seconds before being submitted. Two years later, he was selected to fight former pro wrestling star Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, and he won by unanimous decision to drop Punk’s MMA record to 0-2. That was the most recent appearance for both men, and Punk seemingly has retired from the sport. ....

Hoping to return to winning ways in his next Octagon outing, the Flint, Michigan-born contender has noted his wish to meet with fan-favourite, Nate Diaz. Perry, 29, most recently featured at UFC 255 in November dropping his third loss in his most recent four professional appearances, failing to deal with the sharp hands of veteran all-rounder, Tim ‘The Dirty Bird’ Means. Initially scheduled to meet with former undisputed welterweight titleholder, ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler, Perry instead met with Means, dropping a unanimous decision defeat. The 14-7 puncher slumped to 1-1 in 2020 via the result, having briefly returned to the win column at UFC Vegas 4 in June, taking home a unanimous decision result against grappler, Mickey Gall with his partner, Latory Gonzalez infamously featuring as the only corner person flanking him to the Octagon. ....
