North Alabama sheriff addresses COVID jail outbreak: ‘It’s very dangerous’

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said there are cases of COVID-19 in the county jail and among his department.
During a news conference today, Welden said there are currently nine correction officers who are sick and another five in quarantine. He would not, however, disclose how many inmates have tested positive.
“When it gets into a facility like this, it’s very dangerous,” Welden said, before adding that inmates who need medical care are receiving it immediately. “There’s people that are getting paid $11 an hour over there taking care of people that are doing the best of their ability.” ....
