The Ashland post of the highway patrol said the Mifflin Fire Department was responding to help in the cleanup of an crash on I-71 near the Ashland – Richland County line around 5 am. A semi then hit the fire truck from behind. No serious injuries were reported in the accident.

MIFFLIN - Leon the dog had been at his new home for only six days when he ran off on a recent adventure.
He almost didn t make it to his seventh day.
Leon, a boxer-mix, fell through the ice at Charles Mill Lake and required a rescue by the Mifflin Fire Department.
Estimated to be 2 or 3 years old, Leon had already had a rough time. A family had adopted him from the Ashland County Dog Shelter, then returned him after a breakup.
According to the website for No Pawz Left Behind, Leon was extremely stressed to be back at the shelter, where he was a staff favorite.
Helen M. (Jones) Detra, 67, of Mifflin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born July 3, 1953 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth D. and Helen M. (Kauffman) Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Lesa Kramer and husband, Joe, and Catheanne L. Long and husband, Joseph, all of Mifflin, one sister, Kathy R. Bohince and husband, Richard, of Newport News, Va., five grandchildren, Autumn Young, Joseph Long, Joseph Kramer, Jr., Elizabeth Long, and Bradley Long, one great-granddaughter, Emma Young, one niece, Jessica E. Bohince, and one nephew, Richard Bohince.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Brendan Young, Bethany Elizabeth Love, and Sarah Long and one son-in-law, David Young.
