MIFFLIN - Leon the dog had been at his new home for only six days when he ran off on a recent adventure.
He almost didn't make it to his seventh day.
Leon, a boxer-mix, fell through the ice at Charles Mill Lake and required a rescue by the Mifflin Fire Department.
Estimated to be 2 or 3 years old, Leon had already had a rough time. A family had adopted him from the Ashland County Dog Shelter, then returned him after a breakup.
According to the website for No Pawz Left Behind, Leon was "extremely stressed" to be back at the shelter, where he was a staff favorite.
