LEWISTOWN During a brief special meeting Friday, the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown Board of Directors voted to repeal a resolution enacted at Monday’s special meeting that sought to have Lewistown Borough take over the authority’s debt for the purpose of refinancing.
The board’s discussion centered around the need to have funding available for MABL’s capital improvement projects. Under the resolution, it seemed as though MABL would have been forced to seek approval from Lewistown Borough for any expenditures.
Engineer Pat Ward said there was some “miscommunication with what was going on” at Monday’s meeting.

LEWISTOWN At a special meeting Monday, board members approved a resolution by a 3 – 1 margin that asks the borough of Lewistown to take over the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown’s (MABL) debt.
In a roll call vote, board president Ben Rager and members Jennifer Miller and Frank Berrier voted in favor. Board member Jeff Rocco, appearing via Zoom, voted against, chastising the board in the process.
By allowing the borough to refinance its debt, the borough is a step closer to its previously discussed proposition to take ownership of the municipal authority and lease it to generate revenue for the borough.

Letter sent to Lewistown Borough Council deriding recent actions taken

LEWISTOWN The Mifflin County Commissioners, who were chosen to oversee the Mifflin County Municipal Authority and have served on it as placeholder members representing Lewistown Borough, have largely stayed out of the dispute between the outlying muncipalities served by the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown, the Lewistown Borough Council and MABL itself.
The commissioners have composed this letter to borough council and submitted a copy to The Sentinel for publication. The full text appears below in italics.
Dear Borough Council:
The actions you are taking with regard to the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown (“MABL”) are unequivocally wrong.

YEAGERTOWN The Mifflin County Municipal Authority was officially organized last year with its first meeting being held on Dec. 8, 2020. It was constituted to fully represent all rate payers including those in the seven outlying municipalities receiving public water service through the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown. Since The Sentinel was not able to cover the meeting held on Feb. 24, 2021, please find a summary of what occurred.
The meeting was called to order on Feb. 24, 2020 at 4 p.m. at the Derry Township building. All members were present with eight in the audience and several visitors participating by Zoom. The board reviewed the minutes from the Dec. 8, 2020 meeting and elected a secretary and treasurer. Public comments were then invited with questions and comments coming forth about the Borough of Lewistown trying to take over and potentially sell the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown and what the new authority
