MASSENA â Three members of the Massena Town Council who are not seeking re-election reflected on their time in office during Tuesday nightâs Democratic caucus.
Supervisor Steven D. OâShaughnessy and council members Albert N. Nicola and Samuel D. Carbone Jr. are not seeking another term.
Mr. Nicola, who has served on both the town and village boards for more than 30 years and had served several years as deputy supervisor, was re-elected to another four-year term in November 2017. He said, after consulting with his wife, he decided not to seek another term.
âVery briefly, 30-plus years, seven supervisors. Iâve done my duty and I appreciate all the help and support that I got from Supervisor Steve â very conscientious, very hard-working, easy to work with, always prepared,â he said.

MASSENA Massena will have new leadership in 2022 as the town supervisor and mayor aren’t seeking reelection.
Massena Town Supervisor Steve O’Shaughnessy, Al Nicola and Sam Carbone won’t seek reelection for their positions in November, according to Massena Democrats who held a caucus Tuesday.
All three were on council during the lengthy and controversial process of shifting ownership of Massena Memorial Hospital from the town to St. Lawrence Health System.
During their time on the council Massena also invested and expanded its efforts to promote fishing tournaments on the St. Lawrence River in the Massena area.
