The COVID-19 pandemic opened doors to an entirely new business proposition for Satara-based Savita Dishe, who sold brooms at a weekly haat. When the markets shut due to the lockdown, Dishe obviously went out of business. As the lockdown eased a couple of months later, Satara witnessed a high rate of reverse migration. People working in cities such as Mumbai and Pune got back to their villages, and this gave Dishe her new business idea, which was to start a snack business.

It is important for Indian MSMEs to quickly recover from the losses, address cash flows and labour-related challenges to compete both at the domestic and international level, and for some to even survive.

Covid-19 was an event in history that was never anticipated. It got both individuals and businesses unprepared, leaving millions of them to react towards it. Nobody around the world ever prepared for an event like what the year 2020 presented.
With people taking precautions such as wearing masks, washing hands, sanitizing, and maintaining social distance, businesses saw a dwindling in the number of physical customers. In fact, as sellers were waiting for buyers offlines, buyers were looking for sellers online.
Millions of businesses have since shut down after failing to remain afloat in the new world, (now known as the ‘new normal’), rendering millions of people jobless and hopeless. The majority of businesses that opted to shut down were small and micro-businesses.
