Mashpee to vote on Article 6 watershed nitrogen management plan in May


MASHPEE Three articles set to go before voters at town meeting next month will help bring the town’s long-time-coming comprehensive watershed nitrogen management plan to fruition if passed.
The Board of Selectmen voted last week to approve and recommend articles for the upcoming spring session on May 3.
“If you want clean water, and you care about the future of both the environment of the community and the economic fundamentals of the community, we need to start to address the water quality problems that are relevant in our waterways,” said Andrew Gottlieb, a member of the Mashpee Board of Selectmen and liaison on the Mashpee Sewer Commission.  ....

Mashpee Seeks To Purchase Commercial Property For Natural Resources Headquarters


Rather than construct a new $4.4 million Department of Natural Resources building, the Town of Mashpee will seek to purchase two existing commercial bays on Mercantile Way for $850,000 to serve as a home base for the department.
In a meeting with the Mashpee Board of Selectmen on Monday, February 1, Town Manager Rodney C. Collins presented the Mercantile Way site as an alternative to an earlier proposal to construct a new facility on Red Brook Road.
“Is it as ideal as a $4.4 million facility? No, it’s not,” Mr. Collins said. “But I would much rather spend $850,000 versus $4.4 million, especially since we are walking into a turnkey building that is brand new and we don’t have to do anything down at Red Brook Road.” ....
