FDAC receives funds for Arts Station update
The Fernie & District Arts Council (FDAC) is excited to receive funding from the Arts Infrastructure Program from BC Arts Council. We have been awarded $75,000 towards the update of The Arts Station facilities to Universal Washrooms.
This project will also be supported by the City of Fernie including in-kind staffing and budget towards the removal of hazardous waste and sewage repair.
The construction will not begin until 2022 but in the meantime lots of behind the scenes work will take place to ensure the success of this project. We are excited to be a step closer to an accessible and inclusive community arts centre for all. ....

Walking down Baker Street has become more interesting
Cranbrook Arts’ feature artist is making the window display full of colour and style. Local artist Anne Aitken Anderson is the highlight for the month of February.
Aitken Anderson is a long time Elk Valley resident and emergent artist, who loves to experiment with different mediums and loosely capture the emotion of the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Aitken Anderson grew up on the East Coast of Canada in a home surrounded by artists and eccentrics. She is strongly influenced by the wackiness of her childhood home where her mother painted a giant colourful mural of “Noah’s Ark” and all the animals across the front of the family home. ....

The Trail & District Arts Council and VISAC Gallery have partnered to create stylish face masks that feature designs by some of your favourite West Kootenay tattoo artists, including Rossland artist Alex Moon and 16-year-old student Sasha Leithead.
Leithead won the youth mask design contest.
“My design features an octopus in a loose reference to a Chinese traditional tattoo style,” Leithead explains.
“When I’m doing pen and ink an octopus seems to be my default, I love the intricacy and flow of them.” ....

Call to artists — Applications now accepted for 2021 The Narrows Art Retreat

The Nelson and District Arts Council and The Narrows Art Retreat (formerly Hidden Creek) have joined forces again to host the fifth annual Wood Gundy/The Narrows Artist’s Residency, located at Grohman creek, a short boat ride from the City of Nelson.
The collective goal is to provide artists with a “retreat style” setting in order to work on or develop their Art in the areas of visual art, creative writing including music composition.
Applications are now being accepted from local artists (Nelson, Areas E or F) interested in this program.
The residency consists of one-week shared residency with food allowance during the summer of 2021 at The Narrows Art Retreat. ....
