GAUTENG education department’s decision to fire Parktown Boys High School principal has come back to haunt them. In December last year, Malcolm Williams was fired following the death of grade 8 pupil Enock Mpianzi after the school embarked on a botched school outing. But on Wednesday, 9 June, the Education Labour Relations Council reversed the decision and ordered the department to reinstate Williams as principal. To add to the department’s woes on the matter, the council also ordered that Williams be back paid for the six months that he hasn’t been working. ....

Although a settlement has been reached, Mpianzi s father, Guy Intamba, says he is now waiting for the criminal case to get under way so that his son could get justice. The Gauteng Department of Education and family of 13-year-old Enock Mpianzi, the Parktown Boys High School Grade 8 pupil who was swept away in the Crocodile River, have reached a settlement agreement, a year and four months after the tragedy. The family s lawyer, Wikus Steyl, of Ian Levitt Attorneys, confirmed to News24 on Friday that a settlement on undisclosed terms was reached with the boy s family by all parties involved. ....
ENOCH MPIANZI: SETTLEMENT REACHED! ENOCH Mpianzi’s family and the Gauteng Department of Education have reached a settlement. Thr settlement comes a year and a half after Enoch was swept away by the Crocodile River. The Mpianzi family sued the Gauteng Department of Education for R10 million. According to News24, the settlement was reached on “undisclosed terms” with the boy’s family and all parties involved. But the family also wants justice to be served as they wait for the criminal case to get underway. A forensic report that was released by Harris Nupen Molebatsi Attorneys last year recommended that Nyati Bush and River Break Lodge should be held responsible and liable for their negligent and reckless actions which contributed to the death of Parktown Boys’ High School pupil. ....

Mpianzi drowned during a botched orientation camp arranged by Parktown Boys High. “While conscious to the fact that a young life was lost and will never return, we are hopeful that the out-of-court settlement will bring some comfort and closure to the Mpianzi family, who undoubtedly have been going through a challenging time since the unfortunate passing of Enock,” Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said on Friday. ....
