A warm summer day on Vancouver Island may seem like the perfect time for a long walk with your pet, but the BC SPCA is asking you to reconsider.
While the SPCA says a breezy day might not 
seem dangerous, they note cats and dogs have sensitive paw pads that become vulnerable in the heat.
Surfaces like pavement, asphalt, and artificial grass can become ‘searingly’ hot, the SPCA says. This causes blisters or burns on their paw pads. Plus, hot pavement and warm weather can also increase the overall body temperature of your pet, leading to heatstroke. ....

Campbell River woman reunited with cat four years after he went missing


“I never gave up hope,” said Buckner. “My fiance had always joked that the cat, well known for his hunting skills, would outlast us both if we got lost in the woods. He was comfortable being out there, accompanying us camping from when he was six months old.”
Four years after Spaz went missing, Buckner got the call last Saturday that she had been hoping for from the Campbell River branch of the SPCA.
“For us, there is nothing more rewarding than reuniting a lost animal with their owner,” said Stephanie Arkwright, manager of the Campbell River SPCA, who credits the whole community for making the reunion possible. ....
