Man charged seven years after fatal crash, Crown lashed Article by May 7, 2021 A lawyer lambasted the Crown’s “dismissive and flippant attitude” in a case where a man was charged almost seven years after a road accident claimed an elderly man’s life, a court heard Thursday. And the Crown’s early absence in a constitutional lawsuit seemingly compounded Queen’s Counsel Larry Smith’s arguments in the case in which he is representing Preston Parris along with attorneys Jamila Smith and Jeriah Rock. Thursday’s virtual hearing was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. before Justice Shona Griffith but was delayed to await a member of either the Director of Public Prosecutions Office or the Solicitor General’s Chambers. Judge to hear matters against Govt ‘quickly’ Article by March 17, 2021 Opposition Senator Caswell Franklyn’s lawsuit against Government in relation to its COVID-19 directives will be heard “quickly” as opposed to “urgently”. This was the position of Madam Justice Jacqueline Cornelius when the matter came up before her in the No. 13 Supreme Court late this morning. Franklyn, represented by attorney-at-law Neil Marshall is challenging the manner in which the Emergency Management legislation, crafted by Government to control the spread of COVID-19 on the island, was imposed. He charged that Government is illegally enforcing directives that have not had Parliament’s approval. ....

Acting Magistrate Marsha Lougheed ordered him to move from the district and to not venture back there as part of his bail imposed by the District “A” Traffic Court. Scantlebury, a 41-year-old labourer, of Pounder’s Gap, had denied he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Leon Thompson on December 4 last year; that he damaged Thompson’s car last December 20, and that he used the threatening words: “I gine kill you. You will be going back to Jamaica in a board box. I will give you all the shots in my gun. Your life is mine, boy,” to Thompson on January 21 this year. ....
