Ex-Borno governor defends motion for sack of former service chiefs

A former Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, has defended his motion last year at the Senate for the removal of the former service chiefs.
He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for finally yielding to the call and replacing them.
Mr Shettima, now senator for Borno Central district, had moved the Senate motion calling for the sack of the former service chiefs.
The motion followed the massacre of about 70 rice farmers in Zabarmari area of Jere Local Government Area of Borno.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday night in Maiduguri, Mr Shettima said he joined other Nigerians to call for the replacement of the military chiefs despite some of them being his kinsmen and friends. ....

NAF trains 71 personnel in China to activate new base in Gombe – CAS

As part of the effort to activate the 203 Combat Reconnaissance Base in Gombe State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said more than 71 of its personnel are currently in China on special training.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, disclosed this on Tuesday in Gombe when he paid a courtesy visit on Gov. Inuwa Yahaya.
Abubakar stated that all the personnel who had been in China for about four months were expected back in the country next week and would be relocated to Gombe State.
He said that the NAF Base in Gombe State was strategic not only in the fight against insurgency but “also in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities in the north. ....

No fewer than six people have been killed and houses razed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in a community near Chibok town in Borno State.
The attack was reported to have been carried at about 5pm on the eve of Christmas.
The insurgents were said to have stormed the village in a bid to raid Piyemi, a community 10 kilometres from Chibok town in the southern part of the state.
It was learnt that the residents were forced to flee the town into the mountainous areas as the invading terrorists looted food items and burnt houses amidst sporadic shootings. ....
