ST. LOUIS An Allegan corn grower earned top honors in the state in the 2020 National Corn Yield Contest.
T. Jon Drozd, of Allegan, ranked first in Michigan in the H:Strip-Till, Minimum-Till, Mulch-Till, Ridge-Till Irrigated Class category with a yield of 307.5574 bushels per acre, according to a news release from the National Corn Growers Association.
Marshall Landis, of Schoolcraft, placed second with a yield of 289.5291 bushes per acre. J.P. Clover, of Ionia, placed third with a yield of 284.9052 bushels per acre. The hybrid used in the winning field was DEKALB DKC54‐64RIB.
The National Corn Yield Contest is sponsored annually by the National Corn Growers Association. Every participant in the contest “contributes to the body of agronomic research,” according to the release.
