Marshall Middle School principal placed on leave pending investigation | News, Sports, Jobs

MARSHALL Â The principal of Marshall Middle School has been placed on leave while an investigation is being conducted, Marshall Public Schools officials said.
MPS Superintendent Jeremy Williams said Friday that MMS Principal Mary Kay Thomas was on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Williams said he could not comment on the reason for the investigation, but did say that there is no pending criminal or legal action in connection with it.
Williams confirmed that the investigation was the topic of a closed meeting of the Marshall School Board on Monday evening. Minnesota open meeting laws allow the board to hold closed meetings in order to discuss allegations about a person subject to the board’s authority. On Monday, Williams said he could not say what the allegations were or which staff member was being discussed, but he did say MPS was not involved in any pending legal action connected to them. ....

STATE AUDIT OF SCHOOL DISTRICT BEGINS

Three representatives from the state auditor’s office were available- two in person and one via ZOOM- at the meeting of the Marshall School Board on Tuesday, February 23.
According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, Deborah Whitis and MacKenzie Wooster were present and Kayla Gipson participated via the web to discuss the audit of the district being conducted by the auditor’s office.
A petition with 902 signatures- 152 more than was necessary- was presented to the auditor’s office requesting the audit.
They said a performance audit will cost the district from $65,000 to $85,000.
Field work will be done by the end of April, and it will take a couple of months for the final report. ....
