Apr 29, 2021 NEGAUNEE, MI – Thomas Gerald Chaudier, 70, of Lake St., Negaunee, passed away Monday afternoon, April 26, 2021, at his home. Tom was born July 1, 1950, in Hancock to John and Gladys (Liimatainen) Chaudier, attended school in the L’Anse area, and married Karen A. Joki, in 1971. They relocated their family to Negaunee in 1975, where they raised their three children. Tom worked in maintenance for the Marquette Area Public Schools, retiring in 2001, after 20 plus years of service with the district. He also worked in auto body repair in various local repair shops. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, going to hunting camp with his brother-in-law, ‘Aug’, and taking an occasional trip to the casino. He had a big heart and was always willing to help anybody, from his closest friends to complete strangers. Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren, always following their academic and athletic careers. ....
Bob Ames Jr., a well known Crescent City resident, was recently recognized and honored for his military service during WWII by the Del Norte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. April 17 found the Chapter members visiting the Amesâ country residence, with congratulations and thanks to Ames for his Naval service in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Ames graduated Del Norte High School and enlisted in the Navy in the fall of 1943. He was 17 years old and served until his honorable discharge in May 1946. Del Norte Chapter Regent Cori Higgins, and Program Chairman Marlene Young presented Bob a plaque, with a certificate of appreciation from Del Norte Chapter DAR, inset with a photo of the 17-year-old sailor, and other awards and memorabilia he had earned during his time in the Navy. His wife, Mary Jean, was presented a beautiful spring bouquet. ....
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Clemson track and field program garnered six top-5 finishes across four events during the opening day of competition at UCF’s Knights Invite. In addition to competing well in their respective events, the Tigers combined to record three personal bests and three season’s bests during Friday’s action. “Everyone that raced today was very competitive, and that is what we’re asking for,” said Clemson’s Director of Track and Field Mark Elliott. “I think the effort today was pretty good… Tomorrow will be one of those days where the full group is here, and we’ll have our normal schedule of events.” ....
