New amphitheater hosts its first show | News, Sports, Jobs

The play was performed Saturday and Sunday at the German Park Amphitheater. This was the first play performance held in amphitheater since the renovation. NEW ULM The play must go on, and this weekend, it did just that. Three performances of “The Nerd” were held at the newly renovated German Park Amphitheater. The play was produced by Martin Luther College (MLC) Forum and it was the first theater performance held at German Park by MLC in years.

New Ulm takes top spot in affordable small town list | News, Sports, Jobs

cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM–The City of New Ulm recently took the number one spot on a list of most affordable small towns in the United States. The list was released by Realtor.com. The list was created using median home list prices, ownership costs, unemployment rates and crime rates to determine the most affordable. Since this was a list of small towns, Realtor.com only surveyed communities with a population under 50,000. The survey also listed one small town per state for geographic diversity. Real.com website did acknowledge a pattern with the top 10 small towns. The midwest was heavily represented.

Free music lessons this summer

Registration is now open for Rock of Ages Lutheran Church’s free summer music learning program. The program, “Making Music,” offers one-on-one and small group lessons in June and July. This is the third year the program is being offered. Various levels are welcome to enroll for various instruments — from absolute beginner to advanced. The lessons vary from year to year. This year, lessons include piano, voice, percussion, wind instruments, brass, violin, mandolin, and ukulele. The 2021 Making Music program is offering 60 lesson slots on a first-come, first-served basis. Full program enrollment includes Monday Groups and one-on-one lessons for Pre-K through eighth grade. Photo by Fritz Busch Erna Zahn, the oldest Minnesotan, is celebrating her 113th birthday Wednesday. NEW ULM A woman believed to be Minnesota’s most senior citizen turns 113 on Wednesday. Oak Hills Living Center resident Erna Zahn is believed to be the 10th oldest resident in the United States and the 31st oldest person in the world. “Nobody has come forward to tell me anybody is older than her in Minnesota,” said Zahn’s daughter Marley Kuckhahn of New Ulm. Kuckhahn said she uses Wikipedia, a free, multilingual open-collaborative online encyclopedia as her point of reference for how her mother’s age ranks in the world.
