Have you mixed up some of these numbers?
It is a bi-hex socket in the list of their D19 sockets range. D19 14 means it is nominally 14mm across the flats of a hexagon and standard length. A D19L 14 would be a long reach version. The 14SAE is the designation of the across the flats size that will have some tolerance so that it slips on and off nuts and bolts easily.
29/32 (23.02mm) is close to 23mm and a 1/2 Whitworth wrench width is slightly over this 23mm figure at 0.929±.003 (23.6mm) so a 23mm socket is also a 29/32 socket and a 1/2 Whitworth socket as all have a very similar across the flats value. ....

Problem with DRO's memory or with mine?

I ve got a factory-fitted two axis DRO on my Warco WM18, the type that comes with the SDS6 user manual. I ve been doing a bit of milling over the last few days, having not had much chance to do any lately.
I seem to recall that in the past I could switch off power to the DRO [whilst keeping the rocker switch on the back of the DRO display in the on position] and, if I had moved the table during the power-off time, when I powered back on the DRO would indicate the new position accurately [i.e. work like the battery powered Z-axis DRO I fitted myself at a later date]. Am I imagining this? ....

GHT Rear Toolpost 8deg milling cutter

Evening folks, I m in the middle of a Hemingway GHT Rear Toolpost kit for the S7. I m very much on a (re)learning curve WRG to lathe work, so please be gentle & use lots of lubrication.
The turret requires a slot milling in it to carry the parting blade, straight forward enough.however, the slot needs undercutting by 8deg on the top & bottom edges to create a dovetail for the parting blade to seat into. GHT blithely mentions in passing that he simply makes up a cutter out of silver steel to perform the undercut.hmmm. The supplied Hemingway drawings show the cutter in its completed state with no info how to make it. I m assuming that this is something a more experienced bloke would take in his stride, but it s beyond my current skillset. I ve searched the forum & the internet for either guidance or an off the shelf readymade 1/4 8deg dovetail cutter, all to no avail. ....

Using one tooth instead of three is the same effect as upping the feed by a factor of three. Maybe you should have tried a faster feed than you were using.
On Monday I was using a Ø16mm 2 insert cutter on aluminium at 1300rpm and 350mm/minute feed. This produces large chips not small particles of debris and with a very nice finish.

PS if there is a runout error of maybe 0.002 from the highest to the lowest insert then the 400rpm and 1 per minute feed will result in only one tooth cutting, one possibly rubbing and one not doing anything apart from sweeping away debris. ....

Motor for a gyroscope. | Model Engineer

I’ve just looked at your linked site, Robin
That seems to be a basic little electric motor, with a coupling attached.
. The trick will be engineering the gyroscope and the coupling to spin-up with so little input.

+1 to basic little electric motor . Off load most basic DC motors spin at 10000rpm or more, which is usually too much, so better motors often contain a reduction gearbox. The trick is to find a motor without a built-in gearbox! How about this ebay example from China via Yorkshire (Might be over the top for a small Gyro - 20000rpm at 9V 2A) ....
