Grays councillor is backing The Blues - Your Thurrock

Grays councillor is backing The Blues
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s meeting of the Thurrock Council Planning Committee, he said:
“After a decade of homelessness, this plan will provide a secure base for Grays Athletic Football Club and give the club a ground to finally call its own. It will bring Ship Lane back to life as permanent community football asset, and provide increased sporting opportunities for local people through a Community Use Agreement.
“Of course, the ultimate aim of the Blues and its fans is a move back to the town of Grays. This is an ambition which I share wholeheartedly. However, this move to Ship Lane doesn’t hamper that long term aim – it actually enhances it, by ensuring that the club has a secure base to build on. ....

Grays councillors thank emergency services after incident at high rise
Cllrs Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish said:
“We would like to place on the record our thanks to Essex County Fire & Rescue Service for their attendance last night at George Crooks House, in our ward of Grays Riverside.
“It is always worrying when you hear reports of fires. This is especially the case when you hear of them in high rises. We are very mindful of the six tower blocks we have in our patch.

Blogpost: The 2019 General Election: Taking Stock, One Year On

By Martin Kerin
LAST week saw the first anniversary of the 2019 General Election. It was, in the truest sense of the word, a seismic election. The implications of it will be felt in years to come, and it is an election which is up there with 1945, 1979 and 1997 in terms of importance.
As a Labour member and elected Labour councillor, it is clear that it was an election which posed an existential threat to my party. As of 10pm on 12 December 2019, the party was placed on life support. As of December 2020, I believe the party is off life support, but not yet fully recovered. ....

Blogpost: The Ugly Spectre of Poverty, Destitution and Food Insecurity in the UK

By Martin Kerin
AS I write, news has come in that, for the first time in history, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will help feed children in the UK. For the first time in its 70 year history, UNICEF will respond to a UK ‘domestic emergency.’ Given recent events and following the Food Foundation’s findings that 2.4 million (17%) children are living in ‘food insecure households’, it was only a matter of time before an international agency was forced to step in.
2020 will down as a terrible year for our country and for the world. The pandemic has had an impact on all of our lives, but it has impacted the poorest of our society disproportionately worse. The simple reason for this is that rising poverty and inequality was already a major issue before the pandemic. The pandemic has simply turned the crisis of poverty and inequality into a catastrophe. ....
