When 27-year-old Singaporean windsurfer Amanda Ng fell and injured her knee badly just two days shy of the start of the Olympics qualifiers in Oman in April, a doctor who attended to her said that she “wouldn’t be able to compete (for the qualifiers) anymore”.
Ng said: “At that moment I felt so hopeless, and I was really so upset with myself for being so careless before an important race.”

The story, as we know, didn’t end there. Ng managed to turn things around, eventually qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, where she finished 25th (out of 27) in all the qualifying races in the Games.

National athletes get COVID-19 vaccination as they bid for Olympic qualification
SINGAPORE Singapore has been progressively arranging COVID-19 vaccination for national athletes who are bidding to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
This is due to the athletes having to travel overseas frequently for qualifying competitions in the coming months.
Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (24 February) that the vaccinations will ensure the athletes remain safe ahead of their overseas travels, and can focus on their competitions. We must support our athletes as they travel, train, and compete for Singapore on a global stage, he wrote in his post.
