SDLP MLA Mark H. Durkan was among those supporting Green Party MLA Claire Bailey’s Climate Change Bill which would commit the north to transitioning to a net zero carbon, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable economy by 2045.
Mr. Durkan pointed out how his own home town had already committed to the target.

Delays to the A5 road project are an absolute scandal that will lead to further deaths, a Stormont committee heard on Wednesday.
The A5 plan, estimated to cost £1.2bn, would connect Londonderry to the border at Aughnacloy and improve access to Dublin.
Sinn Féin assembly member (MLA) Martina Anderson told civil servants that setbacks were putting lives at risk.
The project is currently the subject of a third public inquiry.
Officials from the Department of Infrastructure (DoI) have been giving evidence to MLAs on its progress.

Sinn Féin vice president Michelle O’Neill has said Foyle MLA Martina Anderson is a “first-class republican activist”.
Ms Anderson’s family had criticised Sinn Féin after the long-term republican agreed to not seek re-election to the Stormont Assembly as part of a party review of its performance in the Foyle constituency.
While she admitted it had been a “body blow”, Ms Anderson accepted the decision.
Speaking during a joint visit with First Minister Arlene Foster to Clandeboye Golf Club in Bangor, Ms O’Neill said Sinn Féin “needed to do something to fix” how it performs in Foyle after some disappointing results in recent elections.

Michelle O Neill has defended how Sinn Féin handled the restructuring of its team in the Foyle constituency.
The family of Martina Anderson said she had been humiliated by the party, which asked her to consider her position as an assembly member (MLA).
On Wednesday, Ms O Neill said Sinn Féin had to take action following damage in previous elections.
In a Facebook post, Ms Anderson s sister, Sharon Burke, said the family believed she had been sacrificed by the party.
She said the party review in Londonderry resulted in a massive miscarriage of justice and the way it was done was brutal .
