This Filipina artist recreates the Sto. Niño image through glass

Marge Organo’s ‘Sto. Niño I’ and ‘Sto. Niño VII’ Filipinos’ devotion to the Sto. Niño goes deep into the history of Catholicism in the Philippines. In fact, it is among the earliest religious artifacts that reached the country, dating back to 1521 when Ferdinand Magellan arrived at the shores of Cebu. Niño. While studying Glass Casting at The Glassmaking School at Kamenicky Senov in Czech Republic, she had the most special encounter with the holy image when she visited the Church of Our Lady Victorious that houses the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague.

The theme alludes to the necessary adjustments to sustain arts and culture in our current context; this is in line with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)’s 2020 theme for Museums and Galleries Month, “Engaging Exhibitions for Emerging Generations.” Patrons and art lovers were able to visit ManilART both onsite and online. At the venue, contactless visit and social distancing protocols were strictly observed. Despite fewer casual visitors (no minors below 18 allowed), art enthusiasts, collectors and buyers came with a clear purpose.
