Judicial candidates in Pennsylvania can cross-file, allowing them to appear on both parties’ ballots.
Those that won on both ballots in Tuesday’s primary election are virtually assured a win in November’s general election, barring a successful write-in or third-party candidacy. Those who only won on one party’s ballot will face off in the Nov. 2 election against the winner on the other party’s ballot to decide who gets the seat.
District judges handle preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings in criminal cases to determine if the cases will move on to county court, as well as landlord-tenant disputes, traffic offenses and civil actions where the amount claimed does not exceed $12,000. ....

Voters across the Lehigh Valley are choosing a number of judicial seats in the May 18 primary, including magisterial district judges.
District judges handle preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings in criminal cases to determine if the cases will move on to county court, as well as landlord-tenant disputes, traffic offenses and civil actions where the amount claimed does not exceed $12,000.
District judges serve six-year terms, and are paid an annual salary of $93,338. Some incumbents are running unopposed this year, and incumbents are identified on this list by an “I” after their name. ....

The amended bill increases the state s take from the slot machines at Rhode Island s casinos and enhances other commitments from both companies.
House Speaker Joe Shekarchi said it s a better deal for taxpayers.
The legislation increases revenue to our state and preserves critical jobs, Shekarchi, D-Warwick, said in a release.
Under the revised bill, the upfront payment to the state will increase from $25 million to $27 million.
It also calls for the acceleration of job creation, increased financial commitments, and a 50,000-square-foot expansion to Twin River Casino in Lincoln. ....

RI leaders unveil reworked 20-year IGT lottery-deal

The reworked Lottery deal increases revenue to our state and preserves critical jobs, the lead negotiator, House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, said.
Simply put: The bill headed for a vote by the House Finance Committee on Thursday obligates the IGT-led partnership to 1,100 jobs in Rhode Island in exchange for exclusive control through 2043 of the technology that runs Rhode Island s state-sponsored gambling, from the Keno machines at the corner store to the two glitzy casinos.
It also obligates Bally s to create at least 30 new jobs at a corporate headquarters in Rhode Island by Dec. 31, 2022.
It is not yet clear if Bally s – the new corporate name for the company formerly known as Twin River Worldwide Holdings – is making Rhode Island the center of its corporate world. ....

A new compromise version of the legislation enabling the agreement between the State of Rhode Island and IGT and Twin River, now Bally’s Corporation, will be considered by the House Finance Committee on Thursday, May 6.
The amended legislation has been named the Marc A. Crisafulli Economic Development Act to honor the executive vice president of Bally’s, who is battling cancer. He has been a driving force in the growth of Bally s.
