Protesters gather at Statehouse, march down High Street

Participants in a “Black Lives Still Matter” protest Saturday in a downtown march in the southbound lanes of South High Street at the Ohio Statehouse. The protest was held in response to what organizers say is the continued police killing of Blacks. The protesters marched on downtown streets and then returned to the Ohio Statehouse where the rally started.
About 150 protesters marched under cloudy skies and a police helicopter through downtown Columbus on Saturday as they called for justice in recent police killings of Black men and women around the country.

Demonstrations continued for the second night in a row in the aftermath of police fatally shooting a Black man on Monday in a Westerville medical center.
Confrontations between police and protesters broke out Tuesday night when Columbus police deployed pepper spray around 9:15 p.m. on a group who had broken into the division s Marconi Boulevard headquarters. It appeared one person was taken into custody at the scene.
Mayor Andrew Ginther issued a statement late Tuesday condemning the violence and urging future demonstrations to remain peaceful.
Columbus police clashed Tuesday night with demonstrators after a protest over the fatal police shooting of a Black man Monday.
The confrontation occurred after a group of 100 people led to police headquarters on Marconi Boulevard, and several people broke into the building. Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd and one person was arrested.
It was a second night of protests following the death of 27-year old Miles Jackson at Mt. Carmel/St. Ann s Emergency Room Monday. Jackson had been taken to the emergency room after being found unconscious in a vehicle. Westerville Police determined there were outstanding warrants for domestic violence and weapons violations and were transferring Jackson to Columbus Police custody when the shooting occurred.
