The Pella High boys have won the 4th track and field state championship in program history. The Little Dutch won the 4×400 meter relay in the final event of the session to clinch the team title. Pella scored 80.5 points, beating second place ADM who scored 75. The Little Dutch also won team championships in 1986, 2013 and 2016.

When it was all said and done, PCM, Pella Christian, and Pleasantville’s track squads all will have athletes compete at the state tournament next week.
Pella Christian will have at least six events competing in the state tournament. Allison Van Gorp competed in both the shot put and discus as she finished with lengths of 39’3” and 134’8”, respectively. Levi Schelhaas topped both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Schelhaas will also be a part of the 4×100 meter relay and the 800 sprint medley relay teams with fellow teammates Peyton Ritzert, Luke Nikkel, Isaac Kacmarynski, and Drew Geetings.
PCM’s Margo Chipps was the star of the night for the Mustangs as she qualified for four different events, three of them in hurdle events. It was a banner night in the return to the Class 3A district meet as Pella won their state qualifying event in both the boys and girls competition Thursday at their home site.
The Dutch boys scored 194 team points and automatically qualified 15 entries to the state meet in Des Moines next week, while the Lady Dutch tallied 156 team points and 10 automatic bids to Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The Pella High coaching staff believes an additional five boys qualifiers and four girls entries will receive at large consideration for state.
Knoxville’s boys had three entries automatically qualify for the state meet, including the sprint medley relay in the opening race and the 4×400 relay to book the district meet, with Kieren Nichols winning the 400 meter dash and likely finding an at-large time in the 200.
