Plaintiff (Marcus) Hyatt suffered physical injury, personal humiliation, mental anguish and suffering, during the 2018 strip search in a gas station bathroom, the April 26 brief said. In their own filing, Miller and the deputies say both the strip search of Hyatt and the detention of Ashley Barrett were justified given the alerting of a drug dog and deputies suspicions of illegal drug activity. ....

The Orlando Police Department went ahead to collect the names of children in need from local places in the community such as churches, counselors, and other community centers. Officer Marcus Hyatt talked about how tough the year has been for families in need and wanted to do something to spread some much-needed Christmas cheer. “We wanted to purchase gifts and bring them to [the kids] so that they can have a great Christmas,” he says. Officers with the Orlando Police Department donned Santa hats to deliver gifts donated by the department to more than 200 children in need. The department gets the names of kids in need from local churches, counselors and community centers, then works to make their Christmas wishes come true. Officers and staff donate money to buy the toys and gifts, which are usually given out at holiday parties. But this year, those events are canceled, so the officers made special visits to the kids at home. ....
