EVERY YEAR IN Ireland, around 300 people die from lung cancer caused by a radioactive gas known as radon. That’s 3,000 lives lost every decade.
We have a particular geology in Ireland that emits this radioactive gas from igneous rocks that is trapped by our homes at a higher rate than most countries.
EPA and GSI mapping shows that nearly half a million people are at risk of having high levels of radon in their homes. ....

Boss Jim Magilton has revealed that midfielder Jaime Peters will be in the Canada squad which faces Brazil in a friendly in Seattle on May 31st. Peters won the last of his 13 senior caps in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Hungary in November 2006.
Magilton says he will consider whether to allow Peters to rejoin Yeovil on loan next season: We know Jaime has capabilities and we know Yeovil would like to take him back on loan. That is an option we will weigh up.â€
Peters s progress will be monitored through the summer with Magilton feeling that his participation in the U20 World Cup last summer hampered his start to 2007/08. The 21-year-old, who is contracted until 2010, broke through into the first team at the end of the previous season, but failed to make the same impact last year. ....

Town are once again linked with Doncaster Rovers duo Billy Sharp and James Coppinger in this morning’s tabloids. TWTD first mentioned striker Sharp in connection with the Blues when manager Paul Jewell was spotted at their game at Derby in March, while Town’s interest in midfielder Coppinger has been a persistent rumour over the last few days.
According to today’s national reports, the Blues have offered £2 million for Sharp and £600,000 for Coppinger.
Sharp, 25, started his career with hometown club Sheffield United, spending time on loan at Rushden and Diamonds during the second half of 2004/05. ....

TWTD is hearing rumours that Marcus Stewart may well be fit for Monday s game with Manchester City. He is apparently rated as a 70% chance and may return to training on Sunday.
Stewart strained his thigh during last Monday s game with Charlton and earlier in the week said he would be very surprised if he made it. The situation appears to have improved since then.
We ve been sent more information on Thorstein Helstad by Norwegian TWTD reader Sture Auren.
Sture says of the striker who has been linked to Town: He was last season s top scorer in the Norwegian league, and has a fantastic scoring record from the few games he has played for the national team. Richard Wright came through a morning training session yesterday without any problems with his back. Wright missed last week s game against Coventry after feeling back pain in the warm-up.
Keith Branagan took his place and had a good game keeping a clean sheet and making at least one excellent save, which was pretty much all that was required against Coventry.
Wright is likely to return at the Valley on Monday, although George Burley has said he won t push him into playing if he is still suffering with his injury.
Town have announced that their European break in May will see the players go to Majorca. The four-day trip replaces the proposed US jaunt to North Carolina to play the Charleston Battery. This was cancelled earlier in the week after concerns about jet lag from Town s medical staff. ....
