Similarly, in the midst of the Jansenist heresy in the 17th century, in an apparition to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Jesus confided to her the mission to establish a devotion to His Sacred Heart. The purpose of this devotion, Jesus declared, was to make known to man his “desire to be loved by men and His design of manifesting His Heart with all its treasures of love and mercy, of sanctification and salvation.” Among the revelations made were 12 promises to those who would respond to Jesus’ heart, by working ceaselessly to return His boundless and passionate love. ....
