National Trust gets US$200,000 grant

The National Trust has received a grant of US$200,000, or nearly $1.4 million, from the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) 20th Anniversary Partnership Program.
The money will be used for a project titled a “Collaborative Investigation of Climate Change Solutions for Endangered Cultural Heritage in Trinidad and Tobago,” and will be carried out in partnership with the University of Florida’s Historic Preservation Program, the National Trust said in a media release on Tuesday.
Trust chairman Margaret McDowall said the assistance and funding will enable the trust to undertake a complex conservation project that could also have an impact other sectors of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy. ....

National Trust and Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd hosts “Heritage is Me” art competition
March 17, 2021:“What is heritage?”  This is the question the National Trust and Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd are encouraging young local artists to explore in their art competition launched to commemorate International Day for Monuments and Sites on April 18
th. National Heritage is an important part of national culture, and conservation of important built and natural heritage monuments and sites is central to a country developing a strong and sustainable self-identity.
The art competition has been developed under the theme “Heritage is Me”, and through this venture, the National Trust and Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd are encouraging young artists and their families to reconnect with the outdoors and re-discover the beauty and diversity of their heritage. ....

National Trust receives Art contribution for Mille Fleurs
The National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to announce the receipt of two art pieces that have been generously donated by Trust member Dr. Yvonne Bobb-Smith.
This exchange took place recently at Mille Fleurs with Dr. Bobb-Smith herself presenting both pieces to the Chairman of Council of the National Trust Mrs. Margaret McDowall.
The pieces donated are Roy Crosse’s “
Pan in Action” (1970) and John Newel-Lewis’ “
The Harbourmaster’s Office with the Lighthouse” (1957).
Crosse (1945-2014) was a multi-media artist whose talents included composing, sculpting, art, teaching, photography and writing. He was deeply passionate about Art and Pan, receiving many awards, most notably the Ontario Arts Council Award and the New York Foundation of the Arts Award. His work is exhibited both locally at the National Museum and Art Gallery, and abroad at the Museum of the National Center of Afro ....
