This story is about a 62-year-old former Maroochydore station cop whose career service included being a detective in the then juvenile aid bureau investigating child abuse and juvenile crime, Adopt-a-Cop in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast schools, blue light disco coordinator and school-based police officer.
From positive contact with young people and students in schools, he developed a dream of becoming a teacher but kept telling himself and others that he couldnât do it because âhe was too old and too dumb to study at universityâ.

Mortarboards and academic robes were in fashion for one family this week, with four of them graduating from university.
Maroochydore State High School teacher, double University of Sunshine Coast graduate and new mum Rubie Orman was just one of four family members who walked across the stage, earning her master of teaching (secondary) degree.
Ms Orman’s fiance Jackson Ditchfield also graduated this week, gaining his bachelor of laws, along with her mother, Debbie Orman, who received her bachelor of health and community care management and Mr Ditchfield’s sister, Samantha Oldham who gained her arts degree.
