Maruti Suzuki said its domestic sales last month stood at 1,42,454 units, down 8% from 1,55,417 units in March.
Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, increased by 2 per cent to 25,041 units in April.
Tata Motors said its total domestic sales declined by 41 per cent to 39,530 units in April.
On Saturday, Maruti Suzuki India posted a 4% decline in total sales to 1,59,691 units in April as compared to 1,67,014 units in March 2021. India’s largest carmaker blamed the pandemic for low sales as a spike in COVID-19 cases hit dispatches.
Maruti Suzuki had not sold any unit in the domestic market in April 2020 due to the nationwide lockdown. The company said its domestic sales last month stood at 1,42,454 units, down 8% from 1,55,417 units in March. ....

Agreed with the second paragraph of your post, but not the first
. Saying crap is really stretching things. Trust me, the Indian customer is more shrewd than we give him / her credit for. Plus, if people blindly trust Maruti, it s because of 4 decades of hard-earned trust by taking care of the customer. Quality customer service & satisfaction is never accomplished by error. Perhaps other brands should also aspire to garner you can t go wrong with me reputations. Maruti owns 50% of the car market in India, yet even on Team-BHP, less than 10% (5% maybe) of the customer complaints are about them (compare this to Tata, Mahindra or Skoda). Even Hyundai has recently witnessed a massive surge in complaints. ....

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd reported a near 10% drop in quarterly profit on Tuesday and lower margins as the country’s largest carmaker was hurt by a rise in raw material costs and supply chain disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following a steep fall in car sales last year when the pandemic first hit, Maruti’s sales picked up in India over the past two quarters as people opted out of public transport and poured their lockdown savings into big ticket items such as cars. ....
